birthday plans

18 Aug

It is a little over a month until Angel’s birthday and I am in the planning phase. I had originally thought it would be awesome to plan some kind of an event that would benefit the March of Dimes or Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. After giving it some careful thought, I decided that this was probably not the year to start. I am just not sure how I will handle Angel’s birthday and I don’t want to answer to anyone. I just want to be able to celebrate the day in whatever way I am feeling at the time. So, for now, the only thing I am planning is to have a small get together with family and close friends. We will have supper, cake, and I am hoping a balloon release.

But, even though I am not planning a big formal fundraiser, I would like to mention that if you would like to honor Angel on his birthday, it would mean the world to me if you would donate money to the March of Dimes or to Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.

We have raised $8400 for the March of Dimes and I am hoping that by the end of 2013, we can make that $10,000. This cause means a lot to me because of the work the March of Dimes does. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. On an average week in South Dakota, two babies die before their first birthday. When you give to the March of Dimes in memory of Angel, your money funds important research and programs that help babies begin healthy lives. Also, it will be used to bring comfort and information to families with a baby in newborn intensive care. If you would like to donate to the March of Dimes through Team Angel, please do so at If you do not want to donate via the web, please contact me. You can mail a check made out to the March of Dimes to me and I will get it turned in for Team Angel.

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep is another organization that is very dear to my heart. In fact, I think I am more passionate about this organization because of the direct impact they have had on our lives. The mission of NILMDTS is to introduce remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby with a free gift of professional portraiture. NILMDTS trains, educates, and mobilizes professional quality photographers to provide beautiful heirloom portraits to families facing the untimely death of an infant. These images serve as an important step in the family’s healing process by honoring the child’s legacy. If you have followed my blog over the last year, you have seen glimpses of the photos that were taken that day for us by our NILMDTS photographer Kisha. While I was pregnant, I know that I did not understand just how valuable those pictures would be to me. They are priceless treasures. If you would like to donate to NILMDTS so that others can benefit from this gift you can do so at or by mailing a check to

2305 E Arapahoe Road, Suite 220
Centennial, CO 80122

Any gift you could give whether it be $5 or $100 or whatever would be so awesome. Thanks in advance.
